Five members of the GOATS Vietnam team at Microsoft’s Imagine Cup Junior 2023 are 11th graders at Hanoi's Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

For this year, the competition focused on solving some of the world’s biggest issues using the power of AI.

The GOATS Vietnam team with five members, Le Kien Anh, Nguyen Ngoc Bao Han, Chu Quynh Nhi, Pham Thai Phuong and Tran Phu Thanh, all 11th graders, joined the competition with the IntelliGrow product, which is a smart lighting system operated by AI.

"We’re surprised and delighted. This result has made us more confident in our project," said Han.

IntelliGrow is designed with sensor-based automatic lighting control and adjustment to ensure optimal performance and visual health.

The system allows users to easily control and customize lighting settings and minimize power consumption while maintain adequate lighting. It is said to be suitable for different usage environments, help save energy, reduce carbon footprint and protect the eyes of users.

"We hope to continue to improve the IntelliGrow solution in the near future so that it can be put into practice and contribute to reducing electricity consumption," said Phuong.

Nguyen Thanh Tung, the team's supervisor, said there is currently no product on the market that uses AI to adjust light intensity.

The other nine teams who also made it to the top 10 come from Australia, China, India, Ireland, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the U.K. and the U.S.

This year's competition attracted entries from more than 100 countries and territories.
